Available from Swiss CNC, this 2021 Star SB-20R Type G CNC sliding head lathe combines 20 mm bar capacity, twin-spindle machining and a versatile tooling platform for precision component production. Equipped with FANUC CNC control, it offers turning, milling, drilling, tapping and back-working capability within a compact machine layout.

The 10,000 rpm main spindle and 9,000 rpm sub-spindle both feature C-axis control, supporting accurately positioned machining operations on the front and rear of the component. The fully independent sub-spindle allows front- and back-working operations to overlap where the component and programme permit, helping reduce cycle times and minimise additional handling.

### Guide-bush and non-guide-bush flexibility

A key feature of the SB-20R Type G is its ability to switch between guide-bush and non-guide-bush operation.

Guide-bush mode supports the material close to the cutting point, making it particularly suited to slender components and longer turned features. For shorter components, non-guide-bush operation can reduce bar remnant length and improve material utilisation.

This flexibility allows manufacturers to adapt the machine to different component geometries and production requirements.
